The Tianjin Vanke Plaza (Jiulong Road) is located in the Hexi district of Tianjin, at the Southeast edge of the Five Avenue famous historical district and North of the People's Park. The project is surrounded by residential complexes, government offices as well as the Tianjin Foreign Studies University, delivering stable consumer groups for the project. It is conveniently accessed by the subway lines 1 and 5.
The project was formerly known as the "Tianjin Century Mart Jiulong Road", which bore a strong connection with local people. Part of the facade recalls the former Century Mart Jiulong Road with its white aluminum panels which are now complemented with copper metal plates. Furthermore, the architect chose to allow more visibility in and out of the building through its glass curtain wall. The lighting design of the exterior facade uses a 3000K linear light with smooth dynamic change that not only refers to a new life after this renovation, but also echoes with people's breathing, making the building full of vitality.
As a city mixed-used complex, the construction of internal space is crucial as it not only needs to meet its basic functions (retail, catering, entertainment…), but also needs to add an esthetic experience of urban life that gathers more functional elements such as art gallery, exhibition…
The main entrance of the project has a large 2-floor high atrium with a starry visual feast visible also from the outside, as this atrium is filled with custom made decorative warm copper pendant lights and similar lights installed on the wall. The stairs guide visitors into the interior space, into a multi-dimensional shopping surrounding. The stairs can reach the roof directly from the first floor. As people walk by these stairs, the integrated lighting reveals, with a high color rendering index of 90, the varying colors of the tainted glass. One could imagine being immersed at the center of the "Relativity" lithograph from famous Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher. A feline theme that can be seen in various locations and make customers feel as if they entered a free and comfortable art gallery.
