The 3rd China Lighting Design Competition Open for Contest. The Beijing Raffles City designed by LDPi Lighting Design Partnership International (China Branch) won the second prize for the Beijing area.

Zhang Jing, Manager of the Design Department of LDPi Lighting Design Partnership International (China Branch) received the award on behalf of the company.

The Beijing Raffles City is located at the Southwest corner of Dongzhimen and consists of a shopping mall, an office building, an Ascott serviced apartment building and a residential building. The uniqueness of the facade comes from its black and white colors.

When designing the lighting for the Beijing Raffles City, the intent was to be different from “dazzling” light of the Dongzhimen area trying to draw everyone’s eyes. Instead LED lights were used to gradually light the back panels of the facade. At night looking from afar, the slow change of colors and brightness make the whole building alive and breathing. One night of electricity for the façade costs only RMB 385. For the interior lighting, when considering the project positioning (stylish white-collar between the ages of 20 and 40), the design used uniform and bright lights for the shopping center’s public areas and with an attention to the lighting details in the toilets.
