Introduction: Dayu Kaiyuan hotel is located at the Yuling village at the foot of Huiji mountain in Shaoxing of China. The Yuling village is a well-preserved ancient village where the posterity of Yu the Great built it and lived to guard the mausoleum of Yu the Great more than 4000 years ago by historical records. Dayu Kaiyuan hotel, as an old village, preserved the construction pattern of Jiangnan and had hundreds of old houses in Ming and Qing Dynasty period, ancient stage of thousands of years, memorial archway, etc. The Yuling village is characteristic of ancient water town. There are numerous rivers running through the hotel on which spans over stone bridges of different styles and sizes. Only simple garden lights and wall lights were used for functional lighting. The hotel integrates the area's natural ecology, its scenic location, its historic culture, and beautiful landscape with various cultural themes. Modern lighting technology combines with the original building style and other supporting elements to rebuild a high-end leisure resort hotel. In order to protect historical sites and cultural elements, LDPi didn‘t change the original structure and style, especially for outdoor landscape lighting. Instead, LDPi considered the natural landscape as integrated into the lighting design for being a focal point of attraction. Also, LDPi used different lighting to create new visible effects onto the original buildings for visitors to appreciate. The old lights are replaced by new material and new ones are hidden in trees or gaps between buildings. The indoor lighting combines original style and elements of modern resort hotel.
