From August 14th to 18th, 2017, the ninth BEST Fund English Summer Camp began its third week. The eight students from the Madao Primary School, Liuba County, Shaanxi Province continued their wonderful journey.

The theme of the third week of the summer camp was Citizenship. This concept is very new to young children, but influenced by the teacher of the Giraffe English Training Center, they quickly established the correct awareness and understanding, and more importantly how to use this outstanding word in daily life.

Exercise is by no means just a matter of brawn, but also a dual mental and physical test. For the lively children, sport is not difficult, but the wisdom, courage and spirit contained in sports are what they really need to learn.
In the outdoor classes, the young students of Liuba released themselves in soccer games and other challenging sports, and showed their endless energy and wisdom.
The Amazing Laboratory. Learning by doing.
Practice is the best teacher. Learning while using, the tedious knowledge in books can be so vivid and abundant, and learning is no longer boring anymore. In the amazing laboratory, the children of Liuba used their practice and thought to improve the learning efficiency. Furthermore, they also understood the benefits of combining multiple learning methods.

Creativity makes our life more colorful. In this colorful house, the imaginations of the children from the mountains were fully stimulated and created beauty in their hearts. The thoughts of discovering, creating, respecting and loving beauty also began to enter their little hearts.
Storytelling. Gaining the grow-up power from stories.
Many times, some simple little stories contain thought-provoking principles. In the lively and interesting storytelling, the children gradually became sensible and grew up slowly. We sincerely hope that all of them can grow into the backbone of society and one day proudly tell their own stories to others.
Natural Museum. Exploring the mysteries of nature with Carlos from Mexico
On August 19th, 2017，the Liuba students ushered in the last weekend’s activity of the Shanghai Summer Camp: the discovery tour of the Natural Museum. It is worth mentioning that this time “uncle” Carlos from Mexico again volunteered to accompany the children with his knowledge and humor. The children were both nervous and excited. They were nervous because they were worried that their English would not be enough to communicate with Carlos smoothly and also excited because they finally had the opportunity to apply what they had learned and had a close contact with this lovely foreign uncle.
In the huge the Natural Museum, uncle Carlos and the children visited the zoo, botanical, anthropological, and astronomical museums one by one. Plants of various shapes, ancient creatures full of mystery, insects from the microcosm, the ancestors of human and the vast universe ... let the children have too many things to see, and lament the richness and boundlessness of nature. Uncle Carlos used fluent English to explain the relevant knowledge to the children from time to time. Some children could not only understand, but also ask some small questions through the three-week study at the Giraffe English Training Center. Even themselves were amazed by the transformation.
In a week, the 9th BEST Fund Summer Camp will soon feature a grand graduation ceremony during which the children will be on stage for unique performances. They are all eager to try their best and deliver a perfect show.

A: The BEST Fund started in June 2009. Tewa Srilaklang (chairwoman of the Beijing Liang Dian Design Center), Tang Zhi (chairman of Shanghai Giraffe English Training Center), and Dominique Phommahaxay, general manager of LDPi Lighting Design Partnership International (China Branch) teamed up with primary schools in Liuba County, Shaanxi Province to annually select outstanding students in financially challenged rural area and send them to the Giraffe English Training Center in Xuhui District, Shanghai for a unique 1-month summer camp. This self-organized public welfare education project has also received great attention and support from the Liuba County Education and Sports Bureau.
