20th Aug 2014: the 5th “Switch on Beijing” International Lighting Festival unveiled at Beijing Liang Dian Center. It is an important part of a series of activities organized by the Dongcheng Science Park to build the Dongcheng Creative zone and enrich people’s cultural life. This lighting festival also serves as one of the main exhibitions of the 2014 Beijing International Design Week. It shows the amazing inspiration of creative design and brings out great visual effect.

As the curator, Tewa Srilaklang set the theme of this festival to be “Architecture and light”. Lighting installations, created especially for certain architecture, fit perfectly with its surroundings and spirit. The interaction between light and architecture not only gives the architecture a brand new life but also presents the charming beauty of light.

This year, the curative team chose to take this lighting festival from the Ditan Park and bring it to the Beijing Liang Dian Design Center so that a wider public could have a chance to witness the charm and surprise that light can bring. From August 20th to October 20th 2014, the art of lighting will welcome more people who like it. Here, each piece of work has its own story to tell, each has its own life. The audience is able to have a closer interaction with light without going to those high-end and classy art museums.

The festival this year will exhibit the artworks that perfectly combine light and architecture, which are not only the works of well-known designers from China, France and other countries and regions, but also includes pieces of China’s new generation designers.
